Crystal Rig Wind Farm is located on the Lammermuir Hills approximately 40 km east of Edinburgh and 10 km south of Dunbar in the Scottish Borders, adjacent to the boundary with East Lothian. The area around the wind farm is sparsely populated and the turbines are hidden among the hillsides.
When completed Crystal Rig Wind Farm was the largest (onshore) wind farm in Scotland with a rated output of 50 MW. The turbines have a hub height of 60 meters and rotor diameter of 80 meters. From the on site control building underground cables head northwest to the grid connection point at the Dunbar substation.
The generated electricity qualifies for Renewables Obligation Certificates and Climate Change Levy Exemption Certificates.
Natural Power Service Ltd. manages the day to day activities on site. The turbines are serviced and maintained by Nordex UK from their local service centre.
Crystal Rig Wind Farm commenced operation in October 2003.
